Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with the visiting Turkish President Abdullah Gul Tuesday described Iran and Turkey as two Muslim and brotherly countries, adding that the current relations between the two nations are exceptional compared to past years.
Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the goal of the two counties' authorities to treble the volume of bilateral trade exchanges and said Iran believes those countries which have common borders can combine their economic and political efforts as a single unit so as to multiply their impact.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the current position of Turkey in the world of Islam was much more different than past, adding that the country's independence from the west as well as its distance from the Zionist regime in solidarity with the Palestinian nation are the key factors in bringing the country closer to the Islamic Ummah.
Ayatollah Khamenei lauded the Turkish policy as a correct one, adding that the more Turkey gets closer to the great world of Islam, the more it works in its own interest as well as those of the Muslim world.
Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the close views of Turkey and Iran concerning the regional issues, especially regarding Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine and said the Egyptian developments are of much significance and could be a ground for moving for the good of the Egyptian people and the region.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the decades-old humiliating dominance of the US and the Zionist regime over Egypt was the key factor behind the popular uprising in the country, noting that the Egyptian people are Muslim and enjoy strong motivations.
Ayatollah Khamenei said wherever people take to the scene, the trend of developments will shift and conventional political and military tools will turn futile.
The Islamic Revolution Leader said the US authorities seek to hijack the great popular movement in Egypt while the Islamic Republic opposes any interference by foreign parties in the country and believes that the Egyptian must be allowed to decide their own fate.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the most significant issue in the world of Islam at present was to keep and enhance unity and avoid falling in the trap of aliens who seek to sow discord among Muslims. "If the world of Islam realizes its high capacities, the conditions would change and the world of Islam would turn into an influential power in the international arena," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the British government has been the key perpetrator in inciting differences among Muslims. He called on the world of Islam to lead all their policies and plans towards enhancing unity and power of the world of Islam.
"The west has always humiliated the world of Islam to the extent that any nation or government which wishes to counter such humiliation by showing its capacities would face opposition from the west," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei however reminded the definite promise of God that God will assist the Muslims, adding that when one takes the current and past conditions of the region and those of the domineering powers into consideration, the signs of God's assistance would become apparent.
"At which position are the US and the western powers which had once made the region as a ground for their intransigence? What is the current position of the Zionist regime and what was its position thirty years ago? Compare the current position of Iran with that of the past. Turkey has undergone much differences compared to thirty years ago and so have done Iraq and Palestine. All these are signs of God's help and the trend of such assistance would become speedier," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
President Gul, said for his part in the meeting, also attended by IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that he was much delighted over his meeting with the IR Leader, adding that Turkey and Iran enjoy long standing and historical relations.
He expressed satisfaction about his negotiations in Tehran with the Iranian authorities and hoped that the two countries would enhance their cooperation in different sectors, especially in private sector, and make great accomplishments.
He also touched on the regional developments and said everything shows that the region was changing. He expressed hope such changes would be in favor of the regional people.
Abdullah Gul also reaffirmed Ayatollah Khamenei's emphasis on the vital issue of unity among Islamic countries, adding that unity tops other regional issues.
