In a meeting with hundreds of professors, officials and members of
scientific boards of Tehran University, the Islamic Revolution Leader
Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei regarded science as real base of Iran's
progress and might, adding: "The ongoing way of scientific progress
should be continued with full force and more haste."
Ayatollah Khamenei said the tyrant Pahlavi regime committed the big sin of demoting religion and religious teachings, adding that political prudence would be boosted if the students command a deep religious knowledge. The IR Leader said the university officials are responsible for the issue.
The IR Leader then addressed the issue of politics in universities, saying that there must be a burgeoning political ambience in universities. "If university totally avoids politics, it would turn into a place for the growth of dangerous intellectual and behavioral microbes however a political university never means a place for abuse of political currents or elements," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei then pointed to the repeated insistence of the Holy Koran that the faithful must not ignore the tricks of Satan and its followers, adding that through a pessimistic attitude, he considers the recent political developments and bitter incidents as being the outcome of negligence of some individuals. Ayatollah Khamenei noted that political negligence sometimes bears the same fruits as political treason's.
Ayatollah Khamenei at the end of his remarks thanked the Chancellor and professors of Tehran University for their offer of an honorary doctorate and called it a pride, adding however he could not afford to accept the offer as, if God assists, is willing to keep devotion to his original seminary oath.
