Islamic Revolution Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, received the President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, and his accompanying delegation Thursday evening.
Ayatollah Khamenei appreciated Guyana government for keeping an independent foreign policy and said the worst thing the current domineering system has done to the world is its division of the world into the oppressed and the oppressors and that in rejection of the issue, the IRI's policy from the beginning has been to oppose the domineering system.
"All those countries that yield not to oppression and never seek to dominate others are our friends, regardless of their ethnic background," the Leader of Islamic Revolution said.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the US history of dominance over Latin America and said that fortunately, all nations in the region are now well aware of the situation and vote for politicians who wish to see their nations independent, and that the recent election results in the region, including the reelection of the President Jagdeo, is a sign of the awakening.
The Leader of Islamic Revolution then noted that Iran is ready to exchange experience with all friendly countries and Guyana's membership in the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) is a field in which both countries can cooperate.
Ayatollah Khamenei then expressed regret for the painful Haiti earthquake and sympathized with the Haitian nation.
President Jagdeo for his part said Guyana welcomes Iran's presence in Latin America and the Caribbean region, adding that his country has its own independent policies despite its geographical closeness to the United States.
He said Guyana was ready to use IRI's experiences in all fields.
Meanwhile, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was also present in the meeting.
