Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with a group of academics, university professors and scientific elites in Tehran on Sunday stressed the important role of university professors in scientific development of the country.
The IR Leader added scientific development would be one of the major pillars of development and implementation of justice in the next decade in the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that holding yearly meetings with academics and scientific elites is a symbolic move to show the Islamic Republic of Iran's special attention to science and scientists.
Stressing the necessity for paying more attention to research, the IR Leader said the researches should be held in line of the country's needs, adding reflecting the researches in the international communities is a necessary but the publication of them in the world communities should not be a criterion for the country's scientific development.
Given to a comprehensive scientific map of the country, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his dissatisfaction over unfinished efforts to this end.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the necessity for quick presentation of the map, adding the current plans in different scientific fields is not in agreement with the country's needs and the problem could be solved by the map.
Criticizing the growing number of students in the course of human sciences in the country, the IR Leader said the capacity of scientific centers and universities in the field as well as the number of faithful professors teaching the field is not as much as the number of students.
The Leader said most human fields are based on philosophies that believe in materialism and they lack of belief to Islamic and divine teachings, warning that teaching them would lead to promotion of unbelief to the divine teachings and promotion of skepticism to the religious principles.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the government, Majlis and Supreme Cultural Revolution Council should pay serious attention to the issue.
The IR Leader advised that the existing organizations should be strengthened instead of increasing establishments in some parts relating to scientific fields.
The IR Leader also called for using learned, revolutionary, brave and ingenious people in the Science Ministry and other scientific centers.
Ayatollah Khamenei also put emphasis on the necessity for further relations of the Science Ministry and the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council with the scientific elites and using their views.
Ayatollah Khamenei added supporting the academics has always been one of the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and it is expected that the academics should feel responsibility for the university students, scientific future of the country and improving the education system and strengthen their presence in the university.
Ayatollah Khamenei urged for promotion of spirituality in universities and said if we trained faithful students at universities, they would hit by less damages.
Islamic Revolution Leader highlighted high capabilities of the country which helped it 'overcome' the post-election problems.
"The recent post-election issues have placed the country in front of a determining political test. However, the system of the Islamic Republic given its high capabilities was able to overcome the situation," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The IR Leader said that IRI enjoys 'different kinds of freedom' within the Islamic framework.
"Freedom in the Islamic system is a true issue defined within an Islamic framework and the Islamic Republic will never consent to or accept the false freedom sought by the West," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The IR Leader touched upon the responsibilities of different walks of the country in confronting incidents including post-vote events, saying, "What is expected of university professors in this struggle is far greater than that of students."
"Students are the young officers fighting on this front who with their thoughts, actions and perceptions are present in the scene and who test the scene and act within its framework but university professors are the commanders of this soft confrontation."
Ayatollah Khamenei urged the commanders of this front to obtain a good understanding of the current situation and to identify the enemy, its objectives and plans.
"A professor who can play this role is a worthy teacher for the present and future of the Islamic Republic," the IR Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei described raising students' abilities to analyze, and creating an atmosphere of hope and scientific work in universities as being the most important responsibilities of university professors.
"We must move in the exact opposite direction of the enemy's objectives, as it seeks to create the atmosphere of desperation in universities," the IR Leader said.
The IR Leader also highlighted the importance of preparing the grounds for students to express their views in different fields.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the damage inflicted on people in the post-vote incidents and said, "All those who have been the victims of the post-election events must know that the Islamic system has no intention of making concessions."
"Just as those individuals who openly confront the system are legally and justly dealt with, legal and just punishment will also be mete out to the perpetrators of crimes and atrocities."
