The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei met this afternoon with the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev. In this meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the strong ties between Iran and Azerbaijan and reiterated that the ties between the two countries can be further strengthened in different fields.
His Eminence referred to the opposition of the U.S. and the Zionist regime and their efforts to prevent the expansion of ties between the two countries and said that a strong stance has to be adopted in order to counter such opposition.
Ayatollah Khamenei also added that the two countries should further strengthen their cordial relations by relying on the common grounds.
In this meeting which was also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mr. Aliyev described his meeting with Iranian officials as highly fruitful and said that his country has made every effort to develop its friendly relations with Iran.
The President of Azerbaijan also referred to the threats faced by the two countries and said: "There are some countries which are trying to undermine the relations between the two countries, but we will not allow any foreign country to interfere in the friendly relations between Iran and Azerbaijan."
