The Office of the Supreme Leader

Resistance requires courageous leaders

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that the only way for nations to attain progress was to stand by their legitimate rights and interests, adding that the issue requires courageous leaders whom the Latin America commands.

Given the ire and hatred for the US among the nations in Latin America as well as other nations, the IR Leader said all nations are tired of global arrogance and colonialism and that to escape the dominance of arrogance, they require courageous leaders.

"Global arrogance powers are very greedy and insatiable," pointed out Ayatollah Khamenei adding that resistance against such powers is the only way to secure national interests however some world leaders give up in dealing with bullying powers instead of resisting for their nations' interest.

Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the resistance of the Iranian nation in the past 30 years mainly during the eight years of Sacred Defense (1980-1988), adding that Imam Khomeini gave the lesson of resistance to the Iranian nation and the nation gained much from the idea.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the IRI's significant developments in various sectors are very remarkable, never comparable with those prior to the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

"There is no doubt that resistance against bullying powers would be costly however its achievements are more than the costs," the IR Leader underlined.

"Islamic Republic of Iran is absolutely against confrontation and conflict but it also never gives up its rights," Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out.

Referring to the constructive talks between Iranian and Ecuadorian Presidents, Ayatollah Khamenei said more important than official, diplomatic relations are relations of hearts and thoughts which originate from the sameness of goals of the two countries.

Ayatollah Khamenei then noted the young age of the Ecuadorian and Iranian Presidents, adding that the exuberant spirit of the two presidents could be a suitable ground for the progress of the two nations.

The Ecuadorian President, for his part, voiced satisfaction with the meeting and called the Iranian nation great and hero.

Rafael Correa said that the developments of Iran in the past 30 years despite various economic sanctions and eight years of imposed war were very remarkable.

Commending the late Imam Khomeini and his resistance against big powers, he said the Ecuadorian nation and government had chosen the path of resistance.

Referring to his talks with the Iranian President, he said, "We are determined to broaden and deepen all-out ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran and benefit from the country's invaluable experiences in various fields."

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was present in the meeting.
