Constitutional Guardian Council must act without preservations

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei Thursday described the Constitutional Guardian Council as an establishment whose presence secures the legitimacy and the Islamic root of the System.

The IR Leader made the remarks in a meeting with members of the council as well as its delegates in the supervisory branches.

Ayatollah Khamenei lauded the formation of the council as a judicious measure, adding that the council is commissioned to verify the parliamentary ratifications to see whether it complies with Islam Statute as well as the Constitution.

In the same regard, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the council bears the task of interpreting the Constitution in time of ambiguity and make judgments whose validity are the same as the Constitution.

The IR Leader said that supervision of the elections to guarantee healthy polls is another mission of the council, noting that every solid system in the world enjoys a supervisory board to watch over the implementation of its governing principles.

"For the Islamic System which pursues an elevated platform, the existence of the Guardian Council is imperative to secure the movement of the System in line of the Islamic values and principles," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The IR Leader appreciated the jurisprudents and lawyers of the council for due fulfillment of their assignments and making harmonious, reasoned judgments.

Concerning the supervisory role of the council, the IR Leader highlighted the sensitive duty of judging about qualification of the people who are set to decide for the country and the nation as per the portfolios of Leadership Assembly of Experts, the parliament or the presidency.

The IR Leader alerted that the fate of the country and the nation could not be delivered to any one irrespective of his or her conduct, ideas or knowledge.

"How can one allows some individual who keeps a loose belief in the Islamic System's platform and politically is more attached to the aliens' interests than the national affairs to take the lawmaking seat or the summit of the executive body?" Ayatollah Khamenei asked.

The IR Leader underlined due review of qualification of nominees in every polls by the council in compliance with the established criteria and regardless of the smear campaign of the aliens and several domestic political currents who hold no good memoirs of the Islamic System.

Ayatollah Khamenei upheld the Constitution as the principal parameter for the Guardian Council and instructed the councilors to prevent any sort of flout, ignorance or shirk of the basic parameter.

The IR Leader also instructed the councilors to prevent any sort of political inclination, recommendations or expediencies from affecting their judgments or other supervisory affairs.

The IR Leader moreover made a distinction between jurisprudential or legal judgment and opinions driven by expedient feelings. Nevertheless he authorized the council to modify its previous judgments in case fresh jurisprudential or legal verdicts were established provided the modification complied with law.

Ayatollah Khamenei urged the councilors to set up solid argumentations for every judgment so that the elevated position of the council is preserved.

The IR Leader noted that the argumentations set up during the sessions of the council could provide an invaluable reference for the legal and jurisprudential experts, urging the councilors to collect and compile those argumentations.
