This evening, Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, met with Mr Muhammad Shiya al-Sudani, the Prime Minister of Iraq, and his delegation. He expressed his gratitude for the efforts and hard work of the Iraqi people and government in facilitating the successful and grand Arbaeen procession of tens of millions of people. He identified following up on and finalising the projects and agreements between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq as a priority for the relations between the two countries in the new phase.
Referring to the Iraqi Prime Minister's report on the preparations for a grand and Arbaeen procession and its security, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said, "The generous hospitality of the Iraqi people towards the vast numbers of Husayni Arbaeen pilgrims, as well as the efforts of the Iraqi government and officials to ensure the security of this major event, are very noteworthy and remarkable."
Ayatollah Imam Khamenei also referred to the memorandums and documents signed between Iran and Iraq during Martyr Reisi's term. He emphasised the need to follow up on these matters and implement them in the new phase. He added, "The pace of implementing agreements on both sides must be increased."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution expressed his satisfaction with the efforts of Mr al-Sudani's government in resolving Iraq's issues and praised the existing coordination and cooperation among Iraq's political factions, emphasising the need to maintain this collaboration.
In the meeting, which was also attended by Vice President Mr. Aref, Mr Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani congratulated the successful conduct of the presidential elections in Iran and the election of Dr Pezeshkian. He expressed the hope that the agreements between Iran and Iraq in the new phase would be implemented.
The Prime Minister of Iraq also expressed his gratitude for the stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza. He said, "The Zionist regime has crossed all international and humanitarian red lines. Iraq's public and official stance on these crimes remains steadfast and consistent, and the Iraqi government is in constant communication with countries that share this position."
In this meeting, Mr. Shiya al-Sudani also provided a report on the Iraqi government's efforts to organise and arrange security for the great Arbaeen procession. He emphasised that this massive procession was an opportunity to take stances against the crimes of the Zionist regime and to familiarise Muslims, especially the youth, with the principles and teachings of Imam Hussein's (peace be upon him) uprising against the oppressors.
