If there are multiple causes in virtue of which one needs to perform the ablution of ghusl—whether as a mandatory or as a supererogatory instance of ablution—one may satisfy the multiple causes of ghusl by performing only a single instance of ghusl provided that one has all the causes in mind when performing the ablution. As a matter of mandatory caution (iḥtīyāṭ wājib), however, performing one ghusl while intending only one cause does not obviate the need to perform the ablution of ghusl on account of the other causes, unless the cause one intends is janābah, in which case the ghusl one performs for this single cause satisfies all the possible causes of ghusl affecting one.
