The Office of the Supreme Leader

40 million votes cast for Islamic System

Representatives of the four Iranian presidential candidates in an amicable meeting with Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei expressed their views in clear terms regarding the 10th presidential elections.

In the meeting also attended by delegates of bodies in charge of elections, including the constitutional Guardian Council, Ministry of the Interior, National Audit Body and Elections Propaganda Commission, the relevant authorities provided the four candidates' representatives with some explanations about the elections.

Ayatollah Khamenei then in some remarks said elections have always been a symbol of unity and national dignity in Iran.

The IR Leader said the participation of almost 40 million people in the elections, is an honor for the Islamic system and all the voters with different attitudes share this great event and all are duty bound to protect this national unity.

"Voters have different political attitudes but they are all the same in their belief in the Islamic Republic and their support for the Islamic System," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

"The friendly atmosphere that existed prior to the elections should not turn into an atmosphere of confrontation and enmity after the elections, since both groups of the voters believe in the Islamic system," the IR Leader said.

"It is an accepted norm in democracy that the majority should rule, but this does not mean creating enmity and all are obliged to avoid making an atmosphere of confrontation," he urged.

Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that all objections to the elections should be made through legal channels, adding, "I urge the Guardian Council and the Interior Ministry to closely investigate all the objections so that no doubtful point is left."

"If needed, votes in some ballot boxes should be counted in the presence of representatives of the presidential candidates," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The IR Leader advised both the winners and losers in the elections to have patience and be careful about their conduct.

Referring to the agitators in the streets, Ayatollah Khamenei said those people are not supporters of any candidate "rather they are against the Islamic system and only support tension in the society."
